Ms. Maggart created a stir in the Los Angeles cabaret community in March 2001 with her debut show in Hollywood at the Gardenia, where Les Traub of Cabaret Scenes declared her 'destined to become a major cabaret star.' Gardenia owner Tom Rolla subsequently invited Maggart to perform an open-ended weekly run, just as her mentor, Andrea Marcovicci, had done before her. Fostered by Marcovicci and Michael Feinstein, Ms. Maggart was introduced to cabaret society, appearing as guest artist with Feinstein and Marcovicci at various cabaret venues around the United States; notably Feinstein's at the Regency in Manhattan, the Plush Room in San Francisco, and the Oak Room in Manhattan. On her own, Maude made her New York City debut at The Oak Room at the Algonquin Hotel. She has since held extended engagements at the Plush Room in San Francisco, The Gardenia in Hollywood, Schroeder's Cabaret in San Diego, The Royal Room in Palm Beach and Danny's Skylight Room in Manhattan. The extraordinary composers and musicians of this renaissance were musical pioneers, as were the women who sang their songs. About the Artist Maude Maggart is a third-generation performer whose lineage began when her fifteen year-old grandmother became the youngest member of the corps de ballet of George White's Scandals of 1926. Her grandfather is a former lead vocalist and reedman with the Harry James Orchestra, her parents met in the original cast of Applause, and her sister is the singer and songwriter Fiona Apple. Maude Maggart began her singing career by way of Marshall Barer. A longtime friend of her father, the actor Brandon Maggart, Marshall and his music were introduced to Maude during her adolescent summers in Venice, California. Clasping little-girl hands, Maude and her younger sister sat close together as they absorbed all at Marshall's legendary musical "Sunday Soirees". Michael Feinstein and Andrea Marcovicci supplied, first, the voices of that initial introduction to musical/lyrical excellence, and later; the wings under whose care Maude would become an ardent devotee and performer of American popular songs.
