Review "A simply gorgeous traditional album...It's a 'Who's Who' of American Celtic names lending their talents. -- Rock 'n Reel (U.K.) "A vivid soundscape. One of the most rewarding and personal Scottish music recordings heard in a long time." -- SING OUT "Bonnie's playing is exemplary throughout, with exhilaration and desolate beauty in equal measure." -- ROCK'N REEL, U.K. "Exceptional technique, precise control over ornamentation...Eric Rigler's performance on a variety of pipes deserves special mention." -- Dirty Linen World & Folk magazine Product Description Inspired by the Celtic circles of ancient Scotland, Bonnie paints a musical picture through time, joining the heavens and earth to the cycles of everyday life. Performed on Scottish fiddle with gold medal piper Eric Rigler on the Great Highland bagpipe, Scottish smallpipes and uilleann pipes. Eric did all the Bagpipe music on Braveheart and Titantic! Also accompanied by guitar, Celtic harp, viola da gamba, hammered dulcimer, bass and bodhran. Includes: North Highland tunes from The Patrick McDonald Collection, 1784, pipe marches, strathspeys, jigs and reels, laments and traditional favorites: Flo'ers o' The Forest, Gillie Calum and Prince Charlie's Farewell to Scotland.Praised by the Washington Post who says:"Time passes swiftly here, but also soulfully, elegantly and intelligently as Rideout's instrumental flair and emotional sensitivity on both fiddle and viola are consistently enhanced by her impressive scholarship. In exploring and celebrating her Scottish heritage, she unearths and unites a marvelous collection of ancient airs, reels, strathspeys and tales, adds a couple of her own tradition-steeped pieces, then arranges them all with a rare combination of thematic logic and orchestral grace." From the Artist Excerpt from the CD liner notes by Bonnie Rideout: Dear Listener, Circles and spirals have been used as symbols of life in many civilizations from the Stone Age to modern time. Whether depicting the observance of the cycles of heaven and earth, or the continuum of everyday life (day to night, birth to death) the circular theme is vivid and recurring in my mind. In relation to this theme, I divided the music into sections of the day- Dawn, Noontime, Evening, Night. Within each segment, I imaged a range of images, which portray daily life; also in my mind were memories of the Scotland of my ancestry. About the Artist Bonnie Rideout, one of the most talented and celebrated Scottish fiddlers of our time, has amazed and enchanted audiences from Scotland's Edinburgh International Festival to America's Kennedy Center. With her unique style of fiddling, vast knowledge of traditional Scottish dance tunes, Highland bagpipe music, and ancient Gaelic melodies, and the resurgence of interest in Celtic music, it is not surprising that Ms. Rideout has moved to center stage. Rideout is the only American to hold the honor of representing Scottish fiddle music at the prestigious Edinburgh International Festival. She is the first woman to hold a national Scottish fiddle title and the youngest to have won the U.S. championship, winning it for three consecutive years. She has been featured on the BBC, CBS Sunday Morning, and NPR's Performance Today, Morning Edition and The Thistle and Shamrock. In addition to authoring eight music books for the Mel Bay Publishing Company, Bonnie's has recordings on the Maggie's Music record label which include: Scottish Reflections;Scottish Fire; Parent's Choice Gold winner- Gi'me Elbow Room; Scottish Rant with world champion City of Washington Pipe Band; Kindred Spirits; Celtic Circles ,Soft May Morn. Her Christmas recordings are: A Scottish Christmas (with Maggie Sansone, AL Petteway and guest piper Eric Rigler) which became a New York Times "Top Ten Holiday Best Seller" and has continued to sell in record numbers since 1996 and on BMG- the worlds' first "Scottish Christmas" DVD featuring her national touring ensemble. ***************ASIN: B000003JM6
