Review Country music seems lately to have become a pasture for pop/rock songwriters whose lyrics go deeper than good-time party anthems or sexual innuendos, and Jaron and the Long Road to Love is the latest entry in this category. Formerly one-half of bubblegum-pop sibling duo Evan and Jaron, Jaron brings an album of mostly angst-filled break-up songs, like the straightforward piano-driven "Kill Me for Loving You." The mournful "Without Her Leaving" is a striking and emotional ballad that puts Jaron's smooth, polished voice to good use. "Meantime Girl" draws heavily on an Elton John-esque verse and a funk-flavored chorus, while the rest of the album is solid singer/songwriter fare, such as the standout track "It's a Good Thing" (written with brother Evan and Sarah Buxton). The prayer-gone-wrong song "Pray for You" has made a mark at country radio, more for its shock factor than for lyrical integrity. The music here is solid, but whether this artist will fit in with country radio remains to be seen. -- Country Weekly, June 25, 2010 Jaron and the Long Road to Love Feels "Beautiful" You know that irreverent new country song, "Pray for You"? Well, blessedly, there's more where that came from. The guy behind that song, Jaron Lowenstein of Jaron and the Long Road to Love, has a new album out this week called Getting Dressed in the Dark. I have to say, every track reminds me of how much this guy is NOT just a one-hit wonder. There's one very touching ballad called "That's Beautiful to Me," about how she drinks coffee in the kitchen with no makeup on, sings all the wrong words to his favorite songs and goes to buy a dog and comes home with three. It is a love song in the way that only a country song can be a love song, like the way Sammy Kershaw sang "She Don't Know She's Beautiful" and there wasn't a woman alive who didn't want the man in her life thinking the exact same thing about her. The rest of his album is outstanding, but this "Beautiful" track is a must-have. -- DJ Willis, June 24, 2010 One of Tucker's favorite and most handsome sons, Jaron Lowenstein, is back after a ride on the pop charts with his identical twin brother Evan 10 years ago ("Crazy for This Girl" was the biggest hit for Evan and Jaron). This timefan support for lead single "Pray for You" and opening his own record label have him and his new band going the country route. Lowenstein's vocals are clear and well-suited to the genre, and his largely autobiographical songs tell a good story, just like good country music should. "Getting Dressed" is a solid debut, and Lowenstein is a believable and strong songwriter, so check this album out. And did I mention that he's hot? -- Project Q, June 29, 2010 About the Artist Country music was born on truth selling the song. It seems so simple to recognize, but yet so many have drifted far from what makes a country music fan. They don't need American Idol or Glee or whatever the next fad TV shows or big city labels tell them what to like, because like most of us they can figure out the truth, however it gets coated in public, from what it sounds like coming out of a pair of speakers. The country music fan has always been about the lyrically honest driven songs that hit you in the gut and each in their own way can leave you feeling like someone's telling your - that is Jaron and The Long Road to Love. Jaron isn't one to dress up his lyrics with a fake smile or put lipstick on that pig and call it a song, he is going to show you the pig in broad daylight and say what most of us are only comfortable saying behind closed doors. If you want a guy like Jaron you get someone who writes his own songs as if torn from the pages of his own diary and who isn't afraid to admit out loud. Given today's world there is no set face or demographic model that says, "We are country music," because what Jaron has shown us with his first single "Pray for You" and what audiences will get more of with his new album Getting Dressed in The Dark iASIN: B003KNDLV4
