Review "As an agency, we feel this is a practical way of introducing and reinforcing concepts such as self esteem, problem solving, and building and maintaining friendships. -- Cathy Krause, Executive Director of The North Shore Disability Resource Centre "From bully to buddy is a giant step. Teaching kids to control their anger instead of using their fists to solve problems doesn't happen overnight, but it is possible, especially with a little help from a couple of guitar strumming, electric bass playing performers who call themselves The Buddy System." -- The Vancouver Sun "We were delighted with your performances and with the response you received. Your combination of quality music, strong lyrics that speak to kids, and respect for your young audience was a real hit with children, parents and teachers. -- Norma Graham, Associate Artistic Director, The Vancouver International Children's Festival Product Description Sue Malcolm and Dan Smith are The Buddy System! If you are a kid this CD is for you. If you are a parent or a teacher it's for you too. The Buddy System songs were created to help kids think, learn and remember some very important ideas. We think these ideas will help kids (ages 5 to 10)learn to be better friends, solve problems peacefully and feel good about themselves. These areas include identifying and communicating feelings; developing empathy for others; solving problems using a step-by-step method; anger management, bully-proofing, personal safety and self-esteem. It's all delivered in fun musical styles with lots of singable choruses, from folk and blues to cajun and rockabilly. The full lyrics are included. About the Artist Sue Malcolm - vocals and bass Dan Smith - vocals, guitars, mandolin and electric sitar with Gary Comeau - fiddle Darryl Havers - accordion, piano and organ David Hoerl - harmonica Linda Kidder - background vocals Revellie Nixon - washboard and shaker egg Ron Stelting - percussion Sue Malcolm has been both a counsellor in the school system and a bluegrass/folk musician for many years. In 1995 she started thinking about putting together a show and performing in schools, as a way to combine her love of music and her work with kids. She had been teaching the Second Step program for about four years - an excellent violence-prevention curriculum that is used in schools all over North America. She took the three Second Step songs that came with the program, and started writing and collecting more. Response to the shows has been very encouraging. Especially thrilling were their appearances at the 1996, 1998 and 1999 Vancouver International Childrens Festivals. They've performed at literally hundreds of schools in the Province of British Columbia.ASIN: B00004XOM0
