'Winning Combinations: Cinderella/LA Guns' is a budget-priced cd providing a brief sampler of the catalog for each artist. Five songs per band are used on this cd. Cinderella's selections are taken from their first three albums. "Somebody save me" and "Nobody's Fool" can be found on their 1986 debut, 'Night Songs.' "Don't know what you got (till it's gone)" and "Gypsy Road" are both pulled from 1988's 'Long Cold Winter.' Cinderella's third album, 'Heartbreak Station' is represented by the lone track, "Love gone bad." The selection from 'Heartbreak Station' could have been better (i.e. "Shelter me" or "Heartbreak Station") but overall this is a good sampler of the best Cinderella has to offer. Aside from "Love gone bad," everything here was released as a single and music video. With L.A. Guns, the selection is a little more interesting. One song comes from the 1988 self-titled debut, that is "No Mercy." Three of the remaining selections are originally from 'Cocked and Loaded' (1989), the second L.A. Guns album. These are "Never enough," "Rip and Tear" and "The Ballad of Jayne." The last selection, "It's over now," can be found on the third release, 1991's 'Hollywood Vampires.' The opinion of this reviewer is that too many tracks were taken from 'Cocked and Loaded' and not enough from the self-titled release. Two songs apiece from each cd would have been a better choice. Either "Never enough" or "Rip and Tear" (from 'Cocked and Loaded') could have been replaced with any of the following: "Electric Gypsy", "One more reason" or "Sex action" from the self-titled album. While there may have been better songs on 'Hollywood Vampires' ("Over the Edge" and "Kiss my love goodbye"), "It's over now" was released as a single so there is a point to that selection.
