Ellington shares composing credits with trumpeter Bubber Miley, who played a vital role in the early development of the Ellington sound. A m aster of mutes, cup, and plunger, and the growling trumpet technique, Miley epitomized the "jungle" sound Ellington's outfit quickly became known for.
